Sussex Technical High School senior Rebecca Merritt wanted to do something special for her senior project. For the Sussex Tech Senior Project, a student must design a significant product in their career-technical area using advanced knowledge and skills learned during their four years at Sussex Tech. In addition, the Senior Project includes related research and a formal presentation evaluated by a diverse committee of administrators, teachers, advisory council members, and representatives from industry and the business community. For her project, Rebecca coordinated the Sauce for a Cause fundraiser to support the Allen Cancer Center at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital in honor of a close family friend, Tamara (Tammy) Donohoe, a long-time Nanticoke nurse who was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and treated at the Cancer Center. The Sauce for a Cause fundraiser consisted of a spaghetti, salad and dessert dinner held at the Laurel Church of Nazarene in March. The event also included the following vendors: Mary Kay, Pampered Chef, Thirty-one, Paparazzi and Advocare. Rebecca presented a check in the amount of $2200 to the Allen Cancer Center at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital from the donations collected from the families, friends and community members that attended the event in honor of Tammy. Nanticoke would like to thank Rebecca and give her an A+ for all of her hard work in organizing this very special fundraiser. This donation will directly impact the quality of care that is provided and depended on by our families, friends, and the communities we serve at the Allen Cancer Care Center at Nanticoke.
