Wilmington-based developer Buccini/Pollin Group, Inc. (BPG), held a Day of Service on October 26, 2018 in which over 200 associates took the entire day to volunteer. The associates selected from 11 local organizations to serve, including Ronald McDonald House, Ministry of Caring, Neighborhood House, Reed’s Refuge, St. Patrick’s Center, Walnut St. Y, Delaware Humane Association, Rockford Park, Downtown Visions, Brandywine Counseling and Brandywine Zoo. The Pennsylvania based team volunteered at Cradles to Crayons. This year’s Day of Service was even more meaningful, as the event was dedicated in honor of Sean Locke, a friend and fellow associate who sadly passed away earlier this year. Sean represented what service and community are all about, as he was always willing to provide a helping hand and go above and beyond in his daily duties. “The purpose of the day was to serve where it is most-needed and follow our company mission of transforming the communities we serve,” explained Dan McCarthy, Chief Operating Officer. “As a company, The Buccini/Pollin Group believes acts of kindness when executed as a team can have a profound effect on the communities in which we live, work and serve. BPG’s Day of Service provides our associates with the chance to bond with team members they do not get to see every day while serving the greater good. We take pride in serving the City of Wilmington, a community that continues to embrace and support BPG.” The team dove right into responsibilities at the various locations. From kitchen prep and serving meals at the Ministry of Caring, to sorting donations at St. Patrick’s Center, to even putting their construction and maintenance expertise to good use by painting and building a gazebo at The Delaware Humane Association, the team was able to make an impact at all of the various locations. For some associates, BPG’s priority in giving back is their favorite part of the company’s culture, as expressed by Sallie Hendricks, Community Manager at The Residences at Mid-Town. “We do a lot of fun and engaging activities at BPG. But for my teammates and I, no day means more to us than the Day of Service. In giving back to the community we love, we are able to make a small difference in the life of some local residents and that means more to us than we can express.” Keith Hassett, Community Relations Coordinator for The Delaware Humane Association was thankful for the help. “A week prior to their Day of Service, a BPG project manager came to DHA and walked through our “bucket list” of tasks to be done. Twenty-five volunteers came and emptied our former administration building, re-stained our entrances and completed many other projects. BPG’s many hands made light work! We are very fortunate to have them as our corporate neighbor.” Associates that selected Downtown Visions as their location had the opportunity to clean up the city alongside the impactful organization. Martin Hageman, Executive Director of Downtown Visions was grateful for the extra hands. “I want to offer my sincere thanks to BPG and their associates for volunteering with us. These individuals took time from their busy days to work side by side with Downtown Visions. Together, they spruced up Shipley Street from 4th Street to 9th Street by applying a new coat of paint to all the building poles and light posts. The painting provided a clean, fresh appearance to Shipley Street. The Buccini/Pollin Group can always be counted on to be a good neighbor to Downtown and our City. BPG looks forward to continuing to find ways for associates to serve through their BPG Cares outreach program.
