Starting Tuesday, April 2, 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., Saint Francis Healthcare will be offering a free eight-week program, A Matter of Balance, that teaches older adults how to prevent falls and improve balance. Weekly sessions continue through May 21. Saint Francis, in partnership with the Delaware State Office of Volunteerism, Division of State Service Centers, offers this evidence-based program yearly. A Matter of Balance includes reducing potential fall risks in the home, increasing personal strength and balance, and setting goals to help participants increase their mobility. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) cites that more than 1 in 4 adults ages 65 and older fall each year in the U.S., and Saint Francis aims to help older adults in the Wilmington area feel safe and secure in their homes. "A Matter of Balance is a research-based, award-winning program," said Maria LeNoir, Trauma Program Manager for Saint Francis's Trauma Department. "We are grateful to have the support of the Delaware State Office of Volunteerism, Division of State Service Centers as our partner in this initiative." Program sessions are free, but registration is required. To register, contact Kate Rasulova at 302.255.9690.
