The Greater Wilmington Convention and Visitors Bureau, the destination marketing organization for New Castle County, has opened a new visitor center on the Wilmington Riverfront. The Bureau officially marked the occasion today, the first day of summer, with a ribbon cutting ceremony. Government officials, including Mayor Mike Purzycki; Director of the Delaware Tourism Office, Jessica Welch; members of the Bureau’s board of directors; and representatives of the Riverfront’s area businesses and attractions were on hand to help celebrate. Jennifer Boes, executive director of the Bureau, said, “We had to close the doors to our downtown visitor center in 2020 due to COVID budget cuts. We are thrilled to once again have a designated space to personally welcome visitors and talk with them about the many things they can see and do in New Castle County.” The visitor center, at 920 Justison Street, is located off Dravo Plaza, adjacent to the New Castle County Chamber of Commerce and across from the Homewood Suites. The visitor center is open Thursday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Travel counselors are on hand to provide tailored travel advice. Travel information, including the official Greater Wilmington and the Brandywine Valley Travel Guide and maps of Northern Delaware, is available for visitors to take with them. The Bureau’s offices will remain at the Community Services Building, 100 West 10th Street, in downtown Wilmington. While the original visitors center on 10th Street no longer exists, the Bureau does welcome visitors who stop by its offices, providing visitor information and travel guidance from this location as well.
