The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) is preparing to make room for shelter animals fleeing storm-ravaged areas of the south, as a second historic Hurricane bears down on Florida. To make room for animals fleeing the devastation, all campuses of Brandywine Valley SPCA, the Humane Society of Harrisburg Area, and Animal Adoption Center in South Jersey are offering waived adoption fees for all large adult dogs and adult cats through October 16. Each adoption opens space to welcome more animals in need. Those unable to adopt are encouraged to support this effort by making a financial donation. Already, BVSPCA is welcoming more than two dozen cats moved out of the path of Hurricane Milton from shelters in Florida to its West Chester Campus on Wednesday. The cats will arrive and be ready for adoption the same day. The cats were all available for adoption at southern shelters before moving out of the path of the storm. Relocating these homeless pets allows the sending shelters to focus on emergency response for local family pets displayed during the storm. “We began getting ready as soon as we saw the devastation left in Helene’s wake, and Hurricane Milton’s potential path,” said Adam Lamb, BVSPCA CEO. “Our shelters, like many across the country, have limited space, but we know our community can rally in times of crisis to support our specialized expertise in disaster response and allow us to answer the call to help more animals in need.” The BVSPCA is asking for the community’s help. “Our everyday work doesn’t stop when we step up to help during a natural disaster,” said Lamb. “We need our community to join us in this emergency situation by adopting and donating.” More details on adopting and donating are available at: https://bvspca.org/news-events-resources/milton
