Event Description: Document Retention: When to hold 'em & When to "toss" 'em Ensure that your company's document-retention practices comply with recent changes to federal laws and regulations. In this 2-hour presentation, attendees will learn how long to keep personnel records and what should (and should not) be kept in an employee's regular file. Additionally, you'll get answers to these questions: * How do the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act, the updated I-9 form, and other recent changes impact how payroll records should be handled? * What special protections must be provided for medical information under the ADA, the FMLA, and HIPAA? * When can you purge records and what questions need to be asked before anything is tossed? * What employment records, if any, should supervisors be allowed to keep in their own filing systems? * How long should you keep a charge filed with the EEOC and documentation related to that charge? * What's the latest on the "paperless" office? Does the advent of electronic signatures and other technological advances mean that we can store all - or at least most - records electronically? This course is pre-approved for 2 (General) Re-Certification credit hours toward PHR, SPHR, and GPHR through the HR Certification Institute.
