Event Description: The Breast Cancer Update is a symposium held each spring that features leading medical experts and other speakers discussing the most current topics in breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, detection and survivorship. This event is free and open to the public. This year’s Breast Cancer Update is entitled “Steps in the Right Direction: Reducing Your Risk for Breast Cancer.” Speakers will present the best available evidence on nutrition, physical activity, genetic factors, Vitamin D, hormonal treatments, and surgical approaches. This year’s keynote speaker is Karen Collins, Nutrition Adviser for the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR), who will give a talk about how nutrition and physical activity can reduce breast cancer risk. The Breast Cancer Update will also include a talk from Annette Bar-Cohen of the National Breast Cancer Coalition (NBCC) about NBCC’s “Breast Cancer Deadline 2020,” an effort to end breast cancer by January 1, 2020. New this year is a Special Afternoon Session on Cancer Clinical Trials. This workshop will offer health care providers with information about clinical trials, what they are, how patients are protected, and how they advance breast cancer care. This special session is accredited for 3.0 Contact Hours. Nursing professionals can register for this session in advance for a $25 fee. Nursing professionals who attend the morning part of the Breast Cancer Update can also receive 3.75 Contact Hours for a $25 fee.
