Event Description: On Sept. 13, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield Delaware will host the first-ever Walk for a Healthy Community in Delaware. The event will be held at Bellevue State Park in Wilmington, and will help 17 participating organizations raise money for their individual missions. Highmark Delaware organizes and underwrites all costs associated with the walk, while walkers select which participating nonprofit organization they wish to support. The nonprofits then keep 100 percent of the funds raised by their walkers. The participating nonprofits for 2014 are: 1. American Red Cross Delmarva Region 2. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware 3. Children & Families First 4. Claymore Senior Center, Inc. 5. Connections Community Support Programs, Inc. 6. Delaware Association for the Blind 7. Delaware Center for Justice 8. Delaware Greenways 9. Delaware Guidance Services 10. Family Promise of Northern New Castle County 11. Healthy Foods for Healthy Kids 12. Neighborhood House, Inc. 13. Practice without Pressure, Inc. 14. Read Aloud Delaware 15. St. Michael’s School and Nursery 16.The SmartDrive Foundation 17. YWCA Delaware Highmark’s Walk for a Healthy Community has been held annually throughout Pennsylvania since 2003, and has helped more than 200 organizations collectively raise more than $6 million.
