The Delaware Division of the Arts announces the 2010 recipients of the Governor’s Awards for the Arts. Governor Jack Markell will honor the awardees at a reception on October 4, 2010 at the Schwartz Center for the Arts in Dover, Delaware. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with light refreshments, followed by the award presentation at 6:30 p.m. The evening will include performances by Clear Space Theatre Company featuring a medley of tunes from 100 Years of Broadway III and the Bowman-Braddock Duo playing flute and guitar. The event is free and open to the public. RSVP: delarts@state.de.us or to 302-577-8291. Established in 1970, the Governor’s Award for the Arts is given to individuals and organizations that have made a profound and enduring impact on the artistic and cultural life of Delaware. What does it take to create a vital environment for the arts? Individuals working tirelessly on behalf of organizations to pioneer innovative strategies, develop local as well as international initiatives, and mobilize arts resources. The award recipients, each in their unique way, have done this and more —from preserving our cultural icons such as Rembrandt’s “Night Watch” to infusing the city of Wilmington with a new arts vitality, to tapping into the unmet need for music education, to being a champion of the visual arts and theater.
