Building community, one lunch at a time: By connecting formerly incarcerated citizens and members of a local community foundation, Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is working to #TeamUpForUnity in New Orleans. Michael was serving a life sentence when he was paroled. He received case management, housing and employment services at Catholic Charities of Southeast Michigan (CCSEM). Now working and enjoying his grandchildren, his parole was reduced for good behavior. “Michael is a great example of how one bad decision does not have to define your life,” says Nicholas Herman, VISTA project supervisor. #SecondChanceMonth

Gloria's dedication to serving in her community, parish and workplace is a testament to the fact that true leadership often begins long before stepping up to the mic. This #NationalVolunteerMonth, we honor Greg Kepferle, CEO of Catholic Charities of Santa Clara County. As a boy, he brought a Thanksgiving meal to an elderly disabled couple and learned that service and justice go together. “I was shocked by their poverty and moved and humbled by their hospitality and kindness.”

John Halton, a dedicated volunteer with Catholic Charities Diocese of Gary, is CCUSA's Volunteer of the Year! “John treats everyone with respect and compassion,” said Food Pantry Manager Tina Gunnum. “He has an uncanny ability to see the best in people and to bring out the best in them as well.” During his longtime, regular service with the agency's food pantry, John is always eager to take on any assignment, from scrubbing the floors to delivering food door-to-door during extreme weather conditions. He packs more than 500 bags of groceries each week and unloads by hand more than 6,000 pounds of food each month. John, congratulations and thank you for your inspiring service! https://bit.ly/3QlEZA1
