On November 21, the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health held their annual donor reception and announced the 2019 recipients of the Inspiration Awards. Honorees were: The Auxiliary for Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children, Ellen and Alan Levin, and Alyce and Andy Shaw. These awards are given to donors based on generosity and commitment to the community. The Auxiliary of Nemours/Alfred I. duPont Hospital for Children has been supporting the patients and families at Nemours for more than 30 years by providing a sensory room in the Child Life clubhouse, a grand piano in the hospital’s atrium, and unique medical equipment for the rehabilitation gym. Additionally, The Red Balloon gift shop is staffed and managed by Auxiliary members. All proceeds from the shop benefit Nemours and its patients. “It’s a privilege to be able to support the kids at Nemours,” says Auxiliary member, Wendy Berkover. “We truly feel that they are the real heroes.” Over the past 12 years, Ellen and Alan Levin have generously donated to Nemours in support of various departments and projects. They are also dedicated to the future of children’s healthcare, helping to create excitement and awareness as Nemours expands its services into southern Delaware. The Levin’s philanthropic leadership at Nemours and their children’s advocacy in the community have positioned them as inspirational community leaders. Humbled to receive such an honorable award, Alan describes Nemours as the true inspiration. “It’s impossible not to be inspired when you come to Nemours for care. We feel blessed to have them in our community.” Alyce and Andy have supported Nemours Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders for nearly 20 years in honor of their daughter, Annie, and her battle as an infant with cancer. They are grateful for Annie’s outcome and for the treatment they received at Nemours. Now a teenager, Annie proudly participates in and volunteers for events at Nemours. “It means the world to me that my parents work so hard to make a difference for kids and families that are going through what we went through,” says Annie. “I am so thankful for Nemours and happy that we can give back to help others.” "It is an honor, every year, to celebrate the people who make this work possible. Thanks to the Auxiliary at Nemours, Ellen and Alan Levin, and Alyce and Andy Shaw, we are able to see the impact of their generosity throughout the community and in the exceptional care we are able to provide to children and families," says Cathy Kanefsky, Chief Development Officer of the Nemours Fund for Children’s Health.
