Budding entrepreneurs interested in opening a daycare center in Delaware, and those who already operate a center but want to improve their effectiveness and efficiency, can now access an online training program that offers baseline information, guidance and tips for successfully operating and managing a child care facility. The five-part program is offered by the Women’s Business Center (WBC) at True Access Capital, beginning September 29. The course will be taught by experienced daycare center owners and will focus on operational and management strategies, do’s and don’ts, and pitfalls to avoid. Sessions will cover topics like business structure options, leasing and construction, policies and procedures, staffing, technology, marketing, inspections, record keeping and finance. Each session begins at 5:45 p.m. and is two hours and 15-minutes long; sessions will be held September 29 and 30, and October 6, 7 and 13. There is a one-time commitment fee of $50. The program is not meant as a replacement for the state’s required information or review programs. According to a 2020 survey by Grand View Research, the U.S. child care market was valued at $54.3 billion in 2019, and is expected to expand at a compound annual growth rate of 3.9% from 2020 to 2027. The study reports that the increase in the number of working parents is driving demand for child care. Sara Crawford, director of the Women’s Business Center at True Access Capital, said the training program is aimed at Delawareans eager to meet that demand in Delaware, and those who are already doing so. “The biggest challenge most entrepreneurs face when starting a business is knowing where and how to start. For those considering launching a daycare center, this program offers a good overview of the breadth of issues they’ll have to address. And for those already operating a daycare center, the program will be a great refresher, offering suggestions for improving effectiveness and efficiency. We’re anticipating a full group of participants, so I’m urging folks who are interested to sign up early.” Registration information can be found at www.wbctrainings.org or by calling 302-652-6774 x117.
