Brandywine Valley SPCA and Wings of Rescue Collaborate on 100th Flight Rescuing At-Risk Dogs and Cats

The Brandywine Valley SPCA (BVSPCA) will be receiving 90 homeless dogs and cats from shelters in Louisiana on Saturday, October 2nd. The Wings of Rescue airlift of at-risk shelter animals will be the 100th rescue flight in the BVSPCA-Wings partnership.

The animals on the flight will be coming primarily from the Tangipahoa Parish Animal Shelter, where the BVSPCA has staff working for the year to help the shelter increase lives saved from 20% to 90% by the end of the year. The ASPCA-sponsored flight will bring the animals to Georgetown, Delaware, and Coatesville, Pennsylvania. Most of the animals will go to BVSPCA’s campuses to start becoming available for adoption starting on Sunday. Some will go to BVSPCA shelter partners in Pennsylvania and New Jersey.

The four-year BVSPCA-Wings partnership has resulted in more than 7,000 at-risk cats and dogs being relocated from overcrowded shelters and communities facing natural disasters. Most of the pets saved have gone to BVSPCA locations, but the BVSPCA also connected many of the pets with partner shelters in their region as well as in New England and the Midwest.

This 100th flight to BVSPCA also marks two additional milestones for Wings of Rescue. On board the plane will be the 7,000th pet the group has rescued so far this year and the 59,000th flown to safety since its founding in 2012.
