Goldey-Beacom College (GBC) is pleased to congratulate EDiS Company for the honor of receiving a 2021 Construction Excellence Award from the Delaware Contractors Association (DCA) at its Annual Meeting, Thursday, October 28, 2021, at the Chase Center on the Riverfront. In the category of Higher Education over $30 Million, the award represents a more than $30m project including the construction of a five-story, 45,000 square foot traditional, dormitory-style residence hall – William A. Franta Hall and renovation of the Joseph West Jones Building. As a result of increased enrollment and an opportunity to provide expanded services and value to students, Franta Hall included traditional single and double dormitory-style rooms, a chapel and laundry room. Renovations to the Jones Center included new dining services and an expanded fitness center with weight training and additional locker rooms for NCAA Division II Athletics. “Winning the award on behalf of Goldey-Beacom College is significant for us because we had the opportunity to play a role in a massive transformation of their campus. As a beacon of growth for both the local and international communities, we are proud to have lit up the College on the Hill,” said Brian DiSabatino, CEO of EDiS Company. Executive Vice President of GBC Kristine M. Santomauro said, “On behalf of Goldey-Beacom College, I am honored and thrilled that our milestone $30m campus enhancement project was selected for this award and that our construction manager, EDiS Company, was recognized for their expert management and workmanship.” Santomauro continued, “What started out as a discussion to add another residence hall developed into a project that has transformed our campus and has enhanced the campus-life experience for our students for years to come. We could not be more pleased!” Throughout this project, the EDiS team, led by President Gerald “Jerry” Doherty, kept the College on track with planning, schedule and budget. It wasn’t always easy to navigate through serious construction and supply industry issues, but Santomauro held confidence in the construction manager. “EDiS worked with us to continue construction through the unprecedented difficulties and challenges we faced with COVID-19,” said Santomauro. “Regardless of the challenges, Franta Hall and the renovated Jones Center were completed on time and on budget.” Perhaps most important at that time was how EDiS was at the forefront of implementing procedures and CDC protocols to ensure the safety of their workers, sub-contractors and the GBC campus. Santomauro confirmed, “The College selected EDiS for their stellar reputation as a construction management firm, but the manner in which they handled the difficulties of COVID-19 further validated our selection. We could not have chosen a better partner!” The DCA Construction Excellence Awards recognize projects that bring distinction, skill, quality and integrity to the construction industry in Delaware.
